Grace & Joe – Wedding Story Preview

Here’s a sneak peek at Grace & Joe’s wedding which took place at the stunning Church of St. John in Tralee and the afters were held in the equally glorious Ballygarry House Hotel.

I already knew that Grace was a lovely person because we had exchanged several emails and phone calls but I had no dealings with her hubby to be, Joe, until we met at the rehearsals.  Now, I was aware that Joe is a TD and that all the big hitters from Fine Gael would be present but I’ve got to say that Joe is one of the most down to earth grooms I’ve ever had the pleasure to work for.  He and Grace make a fantastic couple and I wish them all the best for their future!

Gemma and Savio – Wedding Story Preview

Here’s a sneak peek at a wedding with a little Brazilian flavour. Gemma & Savio were married in the stunning Black Valley and held their reception at Ballyseede Castle; gorgeous locations!

Savio’s two sisters came all the way over from South America to witness their brother’s big day but not all the family could attend… so here’s a chance for them to get a preview of the Wedding Story that’s making its way across the pond to them.

Laura & Gary – Wedding Story Preview

Father Padraig Walsh summed Laura and Gary’s wedding day up best when he said “You as couple have made this wedding day meaningful in your overall approach.”  Not only was it a lovely wedding but I also bumped into some old friends who were on the guest list… like Laura’s uncle, Aidan, who I worked with many moons ago in London.

Great day!

Regina and Colin – Wedding Story Preview

Looking at this wedding makes me want to shoot it all over again: What a day!

Regina & Colin are from Cork and working and living in the USA but it was my pleasure to be a part of their wedding day which was held in the picturesque village of Sneem.

It was also a first opportunity for me to work with Niall McGann  – an absolute gent and great wedding photographer! – and my first time inside the newly built and impressive Sneem Hotel where Louise, the wedding co-ordinator, made sure that everything ran as smoothly as possible. I’ve got to say that the food and service were wonderful and Sneem Hotel is a great choice when it comes to wedding venues!

Great days certainly help to make great videos and Regina & Colin will be glad to hear that their wedding dvd looks amazing! Check it out…

Humanist Wedding Story

Sam & Nadeeka were a lovely couple and I really enjoyed shooting this wedding.  The ceremony and reception were held in Dingle: a stunning location!  Everything about this wedding was different to the norm… for starters this couple braved the 2008 Irish “summer”, the wettest since records began, and they held their ceremony outdoors on a clifftop… and they got a fabulous day for it!

It was also another chance for me to work with Elaine Kennedy – a very talented photographer who I can highly recommend.

So, here’s a look at what happened on the day…

New and Exciting Changes Ahead

Is it November already!?

We’re coming to the end of what’s been a fantastic year for me and I’m glad to say that I’m even more excited about the year ahead. In the past few months Velvetine Studios has gone HD – which means superior picture quality for you – and we’ve upgraded our entire studio equipment so that we can take Wedding Story to the next level.

In 2009 I’ll be announcing a stunning new service that will have your guests talking about your wedding long after the event and if that’s not enough, I’m also offering Wedding Story Preview to all our future clients! Wedding Story Preview is a sneak peek trailer of your DVD and will be hosted on our blog… it’s a great way to get a flavour of your wedding day and share your video with friends and family all over the globe.

Velvetine Studios is upping the ante… yet again!

Ballygarry House WebTV

Ballygarry House Hotel and Spa has long been one of my favourite wedding venues in Kerry so I was honoured when they asked me to produce some short promotional videos for their new website. Here’s a look at an overview of the fantastic service that the hotel and its staff provides.

OVERVIEW:

Overview from Maurice O’Carroll on Vimeo.

Ballygarry House is probably the busiest hotel in Kerry for hosting weddings because they are renowned for quality service and fantastic food. I love filming at this hotel and I can’t recommend them highly enough to anyone who is looking for a wedding venue!

WEDDINGS:

The hotel has many great features and their rooms are simply gorgeous. The bridal suite oozes old world charm and the master suite is a blend of the old with modern day comforts; very stylish. They have been busy renovating over the course of the summer and I think they have done a fantastic job.

ROOMS:

Nadur Spa is one of the more recent additions to the hotel and I’m told that it has been a massive success for Ballygarry. But don’t just take my word for it: They recently won Day Spa & Spa Manager of the Year 2008.

Re:Frame 08 – New Orleans

Six of the best wedding filmmakers in the world got together and started a new movement called Re:Frame. It’s aim is to share their knowledge with like-minded filmmakers who are actively changing the face of wedding video with contemporary, cutting edge films.

Imagine my surprise when they contacted me to inform me that I had been voted as “The Peoples’ Choice Speaker” by the attendees to come and speak at their first event!

At the time it seemed like a great idea and a free holiday… until I got on the plane; now there was no turning back. Reality hit home when Re:Frame had a limo driver collect me at New Orleans Airport and drop me off at The Royal Sonesta Hotel on the famous Bourbon Street. I was informed on check in that I was a VIP guest (I tried to argue that I was a simple towns person from Ireland but they were having none of it) and there was a wad of cash waiting for me in an envelope: speakers fee and expenses…. now I was really nervous.

The seminars kicked off and I felt humbled by the quality of the speakers. I didn’t bring a pen and notepad but believe me, my brain was feeding on every morsel of information that these guys were sharing out! Truth be told, I was hoping that at least one of these guys would present a horrible, boring seminar but no such luck – they were awesome!

My turn. Just before I’m about to deliver my presentation a mischievous journalist (who spent some studying in Galway – no wonder!) asks me how I feel about all these people who have paid thousands of dollars to come and hear what I’ve got to say. “Are you nervous?” he asked. Well I am now, thanks to you!

I figured that my strange accent would buy me a good ten minutes where I could waffle on before the novelty factor wore thin so I did my best to shake off the nerves during this period. And it worked a treat.

The seminar and Re:Frame event was one of the best professional experiences of my life. My storytelling seminar hit a positive nerve and confirmed my own belief that wedding video needs good storytellers. Their next convention is being held in Austin, Texas and these people are definitely moving the wedding video industry in the right direction.

I wonder if I can convince them that Re:Frame Ireland is a great idea?

I Got Engaged!!!

I’ve stood before countless couples exchanging their wedding vows but until I met Elaine, I never thought I’d see the day when I’d be saying “I do.”

However, two days before we were due to fly out for our holiday in Tunisia I asked her parents for their blessing to marry their daughter. It was a nerve racking experience but it needn’t have been because they were great: “We hope she says, yes!” they both said. And so do I.

I hid the ring in a compartment of my camera bag, flew out to the sun, lazed around by the pool, and proposed mid-week after a fantastic meal. Thankfully, she said yes and now we’re planning for our wedding!

No 1 on our list… finding a great wedding filmmaker!!

EventDV Award

Two years ago, I used to look up to all the world-class videographers on the EventDV Top 25 list (still do!) and now, in 2008, I find myself among them. I can’t tell you in words how happy I am!

The online video communities helped me to take a quantum leap forward with my own work – most notably WedFACT – and I want to thank everyone for their support and votes. Biggest thanks go to my brides whose amazing weddings and lives helped me to make entertaining videos.

2007 was a great, great year and 2008 is going to be just as good, if not better!
